VOCAL REFLEXION FILTERS

So, you've got a home-studio, you want to record your vocals and you want the best quality possible, but you don't have the cash or space to create a professional vocal booth. What's the solution? Luckily there is such a thing as the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter, which provides the benefits of recording in a pro-studio vocal booth for a fraction of the price and space! The Reflexion Filter attaches to a microphone stand and forms a semi-circular enclosure around your microphone. Its purpose is to prevent unwanted reflections and other acoustic problems caused by your recording environment. Although they are used in professional studios, their design also makes them extremely useful for home-studios, many of which don't feature any other acoustic treatment at all.
By preventing unwanted acoustic phenomena, the Reflexion Filter allows you to achieve a recording that is as true and 'dry' as possible. This allows for maximum versatility when placing the recording into a mix, because you can then process and EQ the vocal to fit in perfectly with the rest of your track without first having to deal with any unusual colouration caused by room acoustics.
So, firstly there is the top of the range Reflexion Filter Pro, which has been snapped up by a number of professional studios all over the world. The reason for this is due to its complex patented multi-layer technology, which took over four years to design and perfect. This multi-layer air gap design is so effective because the difference in densities of air and other baffling materials used in conjunction with one-another forms an extremely effective barrier for soundwaves. The RF Pro features 9-layers in all; the most out of all the Reflexion Filters in the series. The heavy duty clamp of the RF Pro also allows for vertical tilting, which can be extremely useful for different recording situations.
The design of the Reflexion Filter Pro helps to absorb all frequencies equally so as not to colour your recordings in any way, in order to give the truest and cleanest recording possible. A mistake that many competitors make is to design their acoustic filters with as few materials as possible, which usually results in a product that is good at absorbing certain frequencies, but does not cater for them all, and hence the final recording will be unnatural.

Next up is the Project Reflexion Filter, which is geared more towards studio owners on a budget. The Project Reflexion Filter (or Baby Reflexion Filter as it is sometimes called) employs the same basic design as the Reflexion Filter Pro, although instead of the RF Pro’s nine layer technology, it employs six layers, including air gap technology to provide an excellent result at a lower cost. Its patented multi-layer design (which includes the same patented polyester fibreboard as the RF Pro) still makes it a fantastic alternative for those on a budget, and it still offers a huge audio-quality improvement compared to simply recording in an untreated room.

Finally (and least expensive of all) is the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter X, with its 4-layer design. The RF X provides a much more lightweight portable vocal booth solution and uses much of the same technology as the Reflexion Filter Pro and Project Reflexion Filter. Because it is so lightweight, the Reflexion Filter X can attach to pretty much any microphone stand compared to the Reflexion Filter Pro and Project Reflexion Filter, which require extremely sturdy stands to hold their weight (such as a strong straight mic stand or sE Electronics' specially designed Stand 1).
