NEW VIDEOMIC, SMARTLAV & IXY MICROPHONES FROM RØDE

On 22nd January, our sales director, Andy Legg, was invited to a Røde conference in California in preparation for NAMM 2013. Here, Røde announced three brand new microphones: the new VideoMic, the SmartLav and the iXY. We will introduce them all to you in this post so read on! Tip: if recording to an iOS device is your thing then you're probably going to particularly interested in this article!
The Røde VideoMic shotgun microphone (for video cameras and audio recorders) now comes with a Rycote Lyre shock mounting system, which isolates the VideoMic capsule from the metal shoe mount, helping to eliminate unwanted sonic artifacts caused by vibration. This is especially handy if you do a lot of your recording outdoors on location.
Next up we have the Røde SmartLav, which is a professional lavalier microphone for iOS devices (e.g. iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad). The SmartLav is ideal for film, TV or broadcast situations as it is very discreet but offers excellent audio quality. In fact, we generally use a Røde lavalier for our Youtube videos!

The great thing about the Røde SmartLav is that you don't need any additional dedicated recording equipment to use it. All you need is your iPhone (or iPod Touch or iPad)! Simply plug the SmartLav into your iOS device's headset socket and record using the Røde Rec app (or another recording app of your choice).
The Røde SmartLav features a high-quality omni-directional condenser capsule, which allows it to pick up sound equally from all around the mic. This allows for great flexibility. It also comes with a foam pop shield to reduce wind noise and vocal plosives, allowing you to achieve the best possible recording quality.

Finally there is the Røde iXY, which is an extremely high-quality microphone for iOS devices. Up to 24-bit/96 kHz audio recordings can be achieved using the iXY's built-in professional A/D converter.
The Røde iXY is made up of two 0.5" cardioid condenser capsules, fixed in a traditianal XY configuration for exceptional stereo recordings. Simply attach it to your iPhone or iPad and away you go! Ideal for recording interviews, lectures, musical ideas and even for capturing samples on-the-go! It also comes with a foam windshield for outdoor recording.
