On 28th February 2017 we hosted a drum clinic with our very own Austin Lane and Jazz and Big Band drumming legend Pete Cater. Watch the video below to see all the antics from the evening and pick up some tips to improve your technique.
The UK's number one big band drummer/bandleader Pete Cater got started early when captivated by his father's records of Joe Morello, Louie Bellson, Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich in early childhood. Since its London debut in 1995 the Pete Cater Big Band has toured extensively, often featuring amazingly authentic recreations of Buddy Rich's repertoire as well as being the house band for the World's Greatest Drummer concert series. The band has released three highy acclaimed CDs, 'Playing With Fire', 'Upswing' and 'The Right Time' and even appeared on ITV with Ronnie Corbett and Miranda Hart.
We hardly need to introduce our Head of Drums, Austin Lane (but we will anyway)... Austin started gigging at the age of 12 playing the usual round of pubs/clubs and functions, being transported around in his mother's dilapidated Morris Traveller. Finally he saved enough money to purchase a Ludwig drum kit at the age of 15. It was a 13"16"24" with the obligatory Ludwig 400. Eventually Austin joined South African band Face to Face who soon changed their name to Seven. After finding success in the late 80s with Seven, Austin went on to work at a local drum shop before running the drum department here at Absolute Music where he hosts clinics, such as this one with Pete Cater.
