Dynaudio announces its new innovative 3-way monitors to the LYD line

Founded in 1977, Danish pro-audio systems company Dynaudio is one of the leading names in studio monitors and the LYD line has gone from strength to strength, picking up 5 star reviews all over the place. The newest addition to the LYD studio monitor range has just been announced and it’s a big one.
The new Dynaudio LYD-48 features a 3-way speaker design, coupling an 8” and a 4” woofer with a 1” tweeter, making them well suited for near-field as well as mid-field studio monitor applications. When released in late March/early April (stay tuned for an exact date!), the LYD48 will be available in white and black, same as the original LYD range, but also in a classic all-black version.
Each of the woofers and the tweeter on the LYD-48 are powered by a dedicated Class D amplifier, delivering 80W / 50W / 50W of power per monitor. The amp itself features a 96kHz/24bit signal path and selectable input sensitivity, as well as a Standby Mode borrowed from the original LYD speakers, it also promises all of the same sonic advantages as the original LYD series such as low volume precision.
Also, like the other LYD monitors, the new LYD48 3-way monitor features Bass Extension, allowing for a choice between the default setting or maximum bass boost or maximum volume boost. Changes will affect the low-end response, but importantly the linear frequency response of the unit remains intact.
Another feature that made us take notice was the ‘Sound Balance’ option, which is basically a tilt filter that tips the tonal balance gently. In short, it emphasises one end of the spectrum while decreasing the opposite end by the same amount. This approach is different from typical shelving filters, as it alters the frequency response, but without interfering with the phase. As usual, by default the monitor is set to flat, but the Sound Balance toggle switch can go for either ‘Bright’ or ‘Dark’.
As mentioned at the start of this blog, Dynaudio is based in Denmark and it’s in their HQ that all their drivers are assembled, finished and tested before leaving the warehouse on their way to studios of all sizes across the world. Dynaudio have already enjoyed quite a success with 3-way speakers like the AIR 20 and 25, as well as the M3 and M2 and the new LYD-48 monitors are looking to take pride of place in the successful LYD range.
