5 New Fender Squire Offset Guitars

Fender Squier is often seen as the go-to brand for players that are looking for their first high quality band-worthy guitar. However, until recently the range has been somewhat limited to Stratocaster and Telecaster models, and their various variations. We are very pleased to see Squire expanding their range to include offset models, such as Jazzmaster and Mustangs.

There is something undeniably cool and different about the offset shape that makes them so appealing to players that are looking for something a little different to the norm. Fender offset guitars have been used by many iconic bands over the years, everyone from Beach Boys to Nirvana and Radiohead, have all been spotted using various Jaguars, Jazzmasters and Mustangs.

Squire has now added 5 offset models at affordable price points, and we have all of them in stock and available to order.

The Squier Deluxe Jazzmaster ST packs the same dual circuit configuration as the original, which may take a few new players a couple of practice sessions to get their head around but will eventually find it offers a lot of tonal flexibility, especially with the smooth Jazzmaster single coil pickups. However, this model does have the simplified stop tail bridge rather than the original floating tremolo (but there is a model with that included). New guitarists will also like the comfortable feel of the ‘C’ shape neck profile and medium jumbo frets. This model is currently only available in Candy Apple Red with 1-Ply Gold Anodized Aluminum scratchplate, it might be the only colour option but we have grown rather fond of it.

The new Squier Deluxe Jazzmaster with Tremolo is the same spec as the Jazzmaster ST above but with the added authentic vintage style floating tremolo. The trem model is the same price as the ST (currently £336), so it really is down to players preference as to whether or not they go for the trem.

Back in 2014 Squier released a Baritone Jazzmaster, which proved to be very popular but had somewhat of a divisive burst finish. The recently announced Squire Vintage Modified Baritone Jazzmaster has a dark, yet classy, looking blackout finish with black hardware, scratchplate and matching headstock. Control wise, it’s been simplified as much as possible with one tone pot, one volume pot and a three-way switch to flick between the two Alnico 5 Duncan Designed pickups. For those players that are new to the Baritone guitar, it sits nicely between a standard guitar and a bass, standard tuning for the baritone is A to A (a fifth lower than standard guitar tuning), meaning that chord shapes will be the same as a standard guitar.

Players looking to buy their first guitar with their own pocket money can do so with the fantastically high-value Squire Bullet Mustang, which is currently on our wall with a rather sweet £115 price tag. Kurt Cobain was one of the first high profile Mustang players, thanks to its slightly smaller than usual and lightweight body and the dual humbucker pickups. The Mustang has had plenty of famous users since Nirvana in the 90’s especially recently with numerous indie rock bands opting for the simple, yet effective model with dual humbuckers, one volume pot, one tone pot and a 3 way pickup selector switch.

Although there is very little of the original Jazzmaster in the new Squier Affinity Jazzmaster HH, with the exception of the shape, it certainly does have the soul of Jazzmaster that was often used by players looking for a guitar with a hotter output than most of the standard Fenders. This newly added model has the simplified configuration of a pair of humbuckers, six-saddle hardtail bridge, three-position switch and single volume and tone pots. Also comes in back-to-basics finishes black scratchplate on black body or black on white. Although, both variations have the very appealing sub-£190 price tag.
