When looking to take the plunge into the world of double pedals, I wouldn't blame you for at least getting a little confused as there is a minefield of low priced products out there with a wide range of features and varying levels of quality.

The Traps double kick drum pedal is at the lower end of this price range but that should not put you off. This is an excellent pedal for the money and features a lot of things that you won’t otherwise find until you start looking at pedals in the several hundred pound price bracket!

Starting with the build quality, this pedal can easily hold its own against much more expensive pedals. It is an all-metal construction and it feels very sturdy. There are no wobbly parts and everything moves very smoothly and accurately. All of the screws and bolts fit nicely and tighten securely. The drive shaft even has rubber covers over the joints to stop dirt getting in.

The action of the pedal is very precise and it responds well to being played both hard and softly. It has a smooth response and delivers the power nicely. Despite only having a single chain per pedal, there is no sideways motion to the footplate, even when playing heel-up or heel-toe.

The Traps double kick pedal caters for a variety of set-ups. The drive shaft extends to twice its length so you can place it almost anywhere. It can also be converted into two single pedals for those of you with twin bass drums. The extra spring assembly is even included so that you don’t need to mess around disassembling it to convert it. The provided beaters are also double sided with plastic and felt materials for a choice of tone. In fact, you can customise the pedal a lot to suit your playing style and preferred feel. The obvious features are there like spring tension and beater height, but it also allows you to fine tune the angle of the cams and even the footplate position.

All in all, this is a steal for the money. It is ideal for those who want a double pedal but are just starting out, or those who just want to upgrade from a starter pedal. Now, excuse me whilst I go and buy one too!
