NAMM 2012: ALESIS DM DOCK
Posted on Mon 23 January 2012 in Drums
The iPad was a huge focus of the recent NAMM show, with a whole selection of new products being announced that harness its power. Given that Alesis are the creators of the popular IO Dock, a product that allows you to integrate an iPad into a professional studio set-up, it's little wonder that they have been quick to take this principle even further, by giving the iPad multiple platforms so that it can be used in almost any musical situation imaginable!
The DM Dock transforms your iPad into a powerful wireless drum module with simple touch screen controls. Plus, because the module is actually an iPad (or iPad 2), it means that it can do a number of other things that no other drum module can, e.g. connect to the internet and download a new drum sound in seconds!
The DM Dock works with virtually any iPad app that permits external MIDI control and it is also compatible with Alesis' and most other brands’ dual-zone drum and cymbal pads, triple-zone ride cymbals, continuous-control hi-hats, multiple-choke cymbals, and acoustic drum triggers. It even mounts to any stand or rack using the Alesis Module Mount (available separately).
The DM Dock provides a host of connectivity, allowing it to act just like a standard drum module! You get 12 labelled 1/4" jack inputs, a HH control input, 1/4" left and right outputs, MIDI In and Outs, USB, a 1/4" jack footswitch connection, a 'Mix In' port and of course a headphone socket.
