BASE TOUCH-CONTROLLER ANNOUNCED BY LIVID INSTRUMENTS
Posted on Mon 04 February 2013 in Computer Music
The Livid Instruments Base controller seems to have escaped the limelight somewhat due to the recent NAMM 2013 industry show, but we think that it's really cool and definitely worth telling you about! This colourful controller combines a traditional drum machine with a futuristic touch-controller, providing a total of 32 pressure-sensitive pads (twice as many as traditional pad controllers), 9 touch sliders, 8 touch-sensitive buttons and 8 momentary buttons. This makes the Base an excellent controller for getting more hands-on with your mixes in the studio or as an intuitive live performance controller for DJs or bands.
The Livid Instruments Base is fully customisable, which means that you can taylor it to your precise needs. It uses a simple web-based editor with an intuitive visual interface, which makes configuring the controls extremely quick and easy. You can even customise the colours of the pads!

One of the advantages of using touch-faders as opposed to hardware faders is that the LEDs on a touch-fader will always indicate the position/value of your currently selected parameter, even if you're constantly switching what the fader is controlling. Yes, you can get motorised hardware faders that also allow you to do this, but motorised faders are noisy and much more prone to malfunctioning due to their moving parts. The touch-faders on the Base also transmit note and velocity values, allowing you to use them in additional creative ways or as extra buttons.
